The Remarkable Mr. Missing

Author David W. Menefee just contacted me via email about his new book The Remarkable Mr. Missing. He wrote to me:

When I wrote The Remarkable Mr. Messing, I had Dustin (Hoffman) in my mind, and seeing him, as well as hearing his voice, inspired me to create many of the circumstances that befall the lead character, Isador Messing, a German Jew trapped in Berlin, who, in desperation, impersonates a series of men to make his way across Europe and rescue his fiance from the clutches of doom at Auschwitz. There are so few actors capable of multiple characterizations within a single story, that my thoughts kept going back to what I had seen him do in so many films, changing like a chameleon from role to role, which suited the circumstances Mr. Messing finds himself in. Seeing Dustin in my mind's eye kept me on track.

David's been trying to find a way to contact Dustin so he can send him a copy of his new book but of course it's hard. His book has gotten a lot of positive reviews from it, and we figured, while waiting for the next Dustin Hoffman movie, you'd also be interested. You can find it on Amazon here:

Here's more about it:

Terror strikes suddenly for Isador Messing, a Jew in Germany in World War Two, when Hitler’s troops arrest his fiancĂ© during their wedding on the day they plan to escape Berlin. Mr. Messing believes that love can overcome all obstacles, and he lights the fuse in a countdown battle of good against evil. While hiding in a basement, Mr. Messing discovers old trunks filled with a long-dead actor's makeup and disguises, and he conceives an incredible plan to steal his way across Europe impersonating a series of men. He carries the torch of resistance into clandestine operations and disrupts German aggression. Alone and stoic in the face of malevolence, he enacts a bold and daring plan to rescue his fiancĂ© from the clutches of doom at Auschwitz. Can one man’s determination to triumph against all odds win in a world gone mad?

I've also found out Luck will premier January 2012 on a Sunday, and for those of you who are familiar to HBO shows, it will replace Big Love's time slot.
